Effects of Motivation on Player Retention in Video Games

Pubblico Deposited

Summary: This research examines the player retention rates of video and computer games based on two design philosophies -- challenges and rewards. The author investigated written works on two different philosophies and related studies and developed a small and experimental game. Observing the player response rates to the game, the author found that the reward motivator yields a higher average retention rate.
